This new system was established with a solemn oath. Aaron’s descendants became priests without such an oath, but there was an oath regarding Jesus. For God said to him, “The LORD has taken an oath and will not break his vow: ‘You are a priest forever.’” (Quoted from Psalm 110:4 that adds “in the order of Melchizdek” who is the priest mentioned in Genesis 14:14-24 who blessed Abraham) Because of this oath, Jesus is the one who guarantees this better covenant with God. There are many priests under the old system, for death prevented them from remaining in office. But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood last forever. Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. Hebrews 7:2 0-25
With over 33 thousand verses to choose from it is hard to know where to start each day, where to pick up, where to study if you have never studied before it can seem daunting so early in my walk before I bought devotionals I started with the day. Today is June 22, 2019 so verse 7:22 seemed like a good place to start. I randomly chose this book and flipped to this verse. If it did not contain a verse 7:22 I would have gone to the next till I found one. There are 66 books to choose from one of them has to have a verse 7:22. If time allotted I would read them all but today I only have time for one and this is the one I have chosen to study.
Because of this oath, Jesus is the one who guarantees this better covenant with God. Hebrews 7:22
I had to read before the verse to understand what oath they were referring to and after to understand the significance of this verse. By this Scripture I had to look up where the oath was taken from. Where did God say this, to whom was he speaking to? He was speaking to David in Psalms. Who held the seed of Jesus in him. Just as when Melchizdek spoke the blessing to Abraham he was also speaking it over the seed of everyone who would be born through him after him.
When He called me to know Him, trust and believe in Him that He was my Father, that I am His daughter, I became His. Isaiah 43:10 Every Word spoken in His Word was not just meant for those who heard it, they were as though He had spoken these very words to me just like Jesus took His Word for himself.
In this verse I am reminded that many priests came before Jesus but none of them taught as Jesus taught. None of them believed as Jesus did that God was His Father and he was His son. So when they died what they taught died with them. Here we are over two thousand years later still learning about Jesus I don’t know if we will still be talking about him two thousand years from now but from the time He walked the earth till after He left the earth to this day sounds a lot like forever to me. Nothing has changed from the way he taught life should be lived.
Loving others still exists. The joy of knowing God is with us still rings true. A peace that He is with us still remains. Patience is not a word never heard of or practiced daily. Being good and kind and gentle toward those with less power and authority than our own still applies. Exercising self-control and self-discipline over letting our emotions control us has been something we all still struggle to deal with but the example of the life of Jesus who did it exceptionally by the power of God, His Father in him shows all of us it is possible and we are capable. That we are not thoughtless animals though for many years I thought I was. Always needing to do what my body wanted regardless if it was right or wrong.
It is my belief Jesus lives forever because his Spirit lives in me. I believe he is able because he proved he was able. I used to come to God like a lowly servant with head bowed, hands clasped, on my knees practically graveling now because of what Jesus did I stand, I lift my head toward heaven a place higher than I am, I open my hands so I can receive all that He would share and give to me. I used to believe I had no business to even be in the presence of God because I was so stained with sin but not anymore I believe that Jesus took the penalty for my sins for me to sin no more.
Now because of what Jesus taught me I come to him like a daughter runs to Her Father whom she hasn’t seen because I know I am His daughter and I miss Him so. I come to Him like I know I am His child. I will always be His child no matter what I do and He will never forget that I am His, that I belong to Him even if we are separated by this physical realm in the Spiritual realm my Father holds my hand, He walks and talks with me, He smiles when I do the things that please Him without Him asking, I make Him laugh, I make Him shake His head, I am sure there are times I frustrate Him like any child but that doesn’t keep Him from guiding and directing my steps some more harshly than others. There are consequences. I reap what I sow, that is a principle that will never change.
Every morning I greet my Father with my words of praise and thanksgiving they are like a hug to Him. My choosing to seek Him first thing in all things is like letting Him know I love Him, I trust Him with all my heart because that is what my brother taught me to do. It doesn’t matter how or when or for how long what matters is that I do and today I came to Him to be reminded of what was taught in the Scriptures through Hebrew 7:22.
